We are beekeepers and over the last ten years things have changed very quickly and our bees have been badly impacted by climate change…
First the drought stopped the nectar and water from flowing and the bees barely survived, even with our best efforts to support them.
Then the fires came and burned some of the hives and burned the trees that were the bees food source. We moved bees out of the path of fires to somewhere we thought was save and then had to move them again when another fire came through an area that had already just been burned.
Then the floods came and some beehives were swept away. And again there was not enough food for the bees.
Apart from that we are dealing with lots of cheap fake honey being imported and flooding the market. And now also varroa mite.
Farmers all over the world are very affected by climate change. The whole worlds food security is at risk if climate change continues as it is.
We are part of a group called Farmers for Climate Action who are trying to raise awareness in Australia.
Hundreds of people from across the country are sharing their stories to send a clear message to the Australian government - it's time for real action on climate change.
