I am a Knitting Nanna Against Gas [and fossil fuels].
Fairlight, NSW
I’m an octogenarian, growing up before the wasteful onslaught of shameful consumerism.
Shortly before the dreadful bushfires I traveled by train from Brisbane to Sydney. I was horrified by the state of dying and dead trees all along the way, so vulnerable. Those fires were never before so widespread.
I am a Knitting Nanna Against Gas [and fossil fuels]. I do EVERYTHING I can, particularly AVOID wasting anything, as I’ve come to realise that it is OUR wasteful lifestyle which drives climate chaos and bad problems for this planet.
We started Manly Food Coop to offer waste free shopping. It’s not convenience shopping, but, by shopping there I contribute no waste from my food etc shopping. I repair clothes (natural fibre) and anything else which can be repaired to avoid buying new stuff. We gave up our car and grow as much food here as possible.
Live simply so all may simply live!
ZERO WASTE LEGISLATION NOW
Sincerely
Keelah Lam
Hundreds of people from across the country are sharing their stories to send a clear message to the Australian government - it's time for real action on climate change.

I studied Construction Management with the intention of helping implement greener construction practices, meaning my studies had a huge focus on sustainability and what risks global warming poses to our crucial infrastructure. While I was at uni I worked in the “Large Loss” team for John’s Lyng Group, an insurance builder. It was 2020, at the time we were still rebuilding claims from bushfires, floods, and cyclones from 2, 3, 4 years prior when the black summer and floods hit the east coast. Our company had grown from 20 people to 50+ in the year prior to me starting because we were growing more and more snowed under with claims. We already lack the capacity to handle the natural disasters we’re currently facing. The governments arrogance and complacency on global warming is equal to murder in my eyes.
